Current status of medicine: “Observe without opening”. I. X-rays ()
Summary: This session, first in a row of six devoted to the same subject, starts with an historical view on methods and techniques of medical observations. Then comes a presentation on the discovery of X-rays by an engineer, followed by a nice detailed presentation of the evolution of the X-=ray tube. The hazards of X-rays are tackled, The work of Van Heurck is presented in detail and Dr. Collard situates the importance of Belgium in the development of radiology. Techniques of enhancement of opacity are introduced. Lengthy interviews present cranial radiography and cerebral arteriography. A very good explanation of tomography precedes a general overview of image intensifiers and the programme ends with a thought on the impact of X-rays on medicine. Keywords: History of medical observation – Discovery of X-rays – Development of tubes – Van Heurck – Opacity techniques – Tomography – Image intensifier Mots clés: Histoire de l'observation médicale - Découverte des RX - Evolution du tube - Van Heurck - Techniques d'opacification - Tomographie - Amplificateurs de Brillance. 2 x copy - tape 1 x copy - CD
