  • Crookes'tube  (1895)


    A partially evacuated glass tube containing two metal electrodes, the Crookes'tube exhibits fluorescence when a high voltage is supplied through the electrodes. Later experiments with Crookes'tube led to the discovery of X - rays in 1895 and the electron in 1897.
